Strathspey Railway

The railway from Aviemore through Boat of Garten and onto Grantown on Spey was once part of the main Highland Railway from Perth to Inverness in 1863 but closed in 1965 as part of 'Beechng Cuts'. A more direct route to Inverness was opened north of Aviemore in 1898. The 'Highland Railway' became part of L.M.S. in 1923 and then changed to British Railway in 1948. The Scottish scenery of heather moorland and silver birch, rowan and pine does not fail to impress when looking out for the wildlife of the area with sightings of deer, and buzzards being common place.
